High School, Scholarship & Selective Program (HSSP)
🧒🏻 Who is the HSSP course for?
Any student in Year 5 wishing to sit the Selective High School Placement Test in Year 6.
❓ What does the HSSP course entail?
Experienced instruction covering the four test components of:
Reading
- Mathematical Reasoning
- Thinking Skills, and
- Writing
Class participation is a must, and will be a gauge of improvement, performance and attitude.
Students should expect to be asked questions and to pose questions of other students and the instructors.
Parents and students should be aware that this course is intensive and that the range of content covered far exceeds the standard curriculum.
✅ Why choose to prepare with us?
We are of the opinion that students need to be nurtured to develop their potential in lateral thinking and problem solving, with the goal of gaining a position in a Selective High School not being the only aim for parents and students.
There are over 13 000 students who participate, with under 25% of those students being accepted.
The organisation, time management and level of difficulty in the work assists students in their transition into high school.
It is the maturity and diligence that is developed through this course that we feel is equally as beneficial as the study skills and exam techniques.
🗓️ When should my child begin the HSSP course?
The HSSP course runs from the beginning of Year 5 to the weekend before the test date in Year 6.
Although we recommend starting the course from the content-intensive component at the beginning, it is not impossible to join closer to the end of Year 5.
📍 Where do HSSP classes take place?
Sessions are conducted in-centre at our Kogarah location.
📚 Will my child be given homework in this course?
Yes, students will work from a set of worksheets provided for classwork and for homework.
The amount of homework set for each class is expected to be completed by the following class date.
Each homework booklet has a cover sheet detailing the sections included in the week’s homework, as well as the assessment scores attained by the student.
